Peter W. Macuga

Peter W. Macuga is a founding partner in the Detroit law firm of Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C.  Mr. Macuga graduated from Detroit College of Law in 1977.  Mr. Macuga received an undergraduate degree in American history from the University of Michigan in 1972.  After college, Mr. Macuga began working for the Michigan Tax Tribunal where he served as Deputy Clerk and Hearing Officer until 1977.  Mr. Macuga served as supervising corporate counsel for tax and finances with the City of Detroit Law Department from 1977 through 1990.  Mr. Macuga entered private practice in 1990 and founded the firm of Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C. in 1994.

As a class action attorney, Mr. Macuga has been involved in numerous noteworthy cases in Michigan. In Taxpayers Allied for Constitutional Taxation v. Wayne County, one of the largest class actions in Michigan, Mr. Macuga successfully challenged a tax imposed upon several hundred thousand residents of Wayne County.  Mr. Macuga also successfully defended homeowners' rights to assert claims against their municipality for sewage back-ups in Pohutski v. Allen Park, a case involving 200 homeowners which ultimately went before the Michigan Supreme Court.

Mr. Macuga has been an adjunct professor at Michigan State University Detroit College of Law since 1984. He teaches State and Local Taxation and Partnership Taxation.

In 2002, Mr. Macuga was recognized as one of Michigan's Lawyers of the Year by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Mr. Macuga was admitted to the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District of Michigan in 1977.  Mr. Macuga was also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals 6th Circuit in 1980. top

Steven D. Liddle

Steven D. Liddle is a founding partner of Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C.  Mr. Liddle earned an undergraduate degree in Business at Michigan State University in 1987 and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1991. 

Mr. Liddle served as lead counsel in Pohutski v. Allen Park and argued the homeowners' position before the Michigan Supreme Court.  Aside from Pohutski, Mr. Liddle has represented tens of thousands of individuals in class actions claiming damages arising from the flooding of private property by government sewers, and claims for damages arising from the emission of air pollution, including noxious odors and fugitive dust onto private property. In Olden v LaFarge, Mr. Liddle was successful in obtaining class certification for a group of approximately 11,000 homeowners against a cement producer who utilized hazardous waste as part of the production of its product.

Mr. Liddle also coordinated the grass roots activities and lobbying that led to the enactment of Public Act 222 that, by statute, allows homeowners to sue their respective municipality for damages arising from a sewage back-up.

For his role in representing homeowners complaining of damages arising from a sewage backup, Mr. Liddle was recognized as one of Michigan's Lawyers of the Year by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Due, in large part, to his successes in Class Action litigation, Mr. Liddle was also featured in Crain's Detroit Business 40 under 40, an article highlighting noteworthy individuals in Michigan under the age of 40. 

Mr. Liddle has taught Complex Civil Litigation at Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law which involves the study of class actions.

In addition to the state bar, Mr. Liddle was admitted to the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. District Court Western District of Michigan in 1991.  Mr. Liddle was also admitted to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. top

David R. Dubin

David R. Dubin is a partner of Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C. Prior to earning his law degree from the Detroit College of Law, Michigan State University in 1997, Mr. Dubin earned an undergraduate degree in political science and soviet studies from Eastern Michigan University in 1994.  

Mr. Dubin's entire legal career has been devoted to Class Action litigation.  His practice focuses on air pollution and environmental contamination.  Mr. Dubin has significant involvement in numerous class actions, including Pohutski v Allen Park and Olden v LaFarge.  Mr. Dubin was successful in obtaining class certification for a group of approximately 11,000 homeowners against a cement producer who utilized hazardous waste as part of the production of its product.

Mr. Dubin is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. top

Laura L. Sheets

Laura L. Sheets is an associate at Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C.  Ms. Sheets graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wayne State University in 1998 with an undergraduate degree in journalism.  She received her law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 2001.  During the course of her employment with Macuga, Liddle & Dubin, P.C., Ms. Sheets has been involved in Class Action litigation involving sewage invasions, air pollution and employment discrimination.

Ms. Sheets was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2001 and the US District Court Eastern District of Michigan in 2004. top
